Fun with Sisters on the Fly at I Love Fall Camping #3
I Love Fall Camping #2 was my first official event with Sisters on the Fly, even though I had been a member for almost a year. Last year I snagged my friend Demaree, and pulled our 24' Avion down to Potato Creek State Park, which is outside of South Bend, Indiana. It was VERY windy that weekend, and my first time towing the trailer any distance. I white-knuckled it both ways, but we got there and arrived home safely and had a wonderful time.
Now, a year later and several SOTF events later, I was excited to head down to spend time with my fellow Sisters. We had a wonderful weekend. I really needed it, as we had a family medical situation that week which I thought was going to cancel my trip. Thankfully, all came out okay in the end, and I was able to go.
On Friday, it was my honor to lead a train case decoupage class. They really didn't need me - these women had ideas and skills galore! They were making amazing cases and I'm anxious to see the final results. I'm always impressed with people's creativity.
At this event, an auction is held with all the proceeds going to Casting for Recovery. CFR provides retreats for women who have had breast cancer. It's all expense paid and the women are educated and pampered. It's a wonderful organization. At this event, over $3000 was raised for CFR. It costs about $1000 to send a woman to a retreat, so essentially our event is sending 3 women next year. What a good feeling that is, and we all had fun doing it.
Thank you Karen for all your hard work putting the event on. It's really the highlight of the camping season for many of us. I had a blast, and the laughter was good for my soul.
