Lyla's cleft

When we get a newborn puppy with a cleft we always look at it and wonder if they’ll do ok. They’re remarkably resilient despite their issues.  Lyla’s cleft is pretty significant but she has learned how to eat and drink out of a bowl no problem.  So many people are advised to put their newborn cleft puppies down right away.  That’s so “old school” thinking by veterinarians. There is now a network of people all over the country willing to take on these special needs animals. I am very grateful that we have a great veterinarian who not only supports our cleft babies, but in fact, adopted one from us. Lyla came through surgery well and is sleeping it off in the big furry bed. It hurts when they don’t make it but it’s so good when they thrive.
