Flea Market Find ... keep as is or refinish?

We found this beautiful armoire at the local flea market.  It is totally not our style, but it was so pretty it captured my attention.  Someone had obviously painted it a soft buttercream yellow that was starting to look a little shabby.

We walked around the flea market and kept coming back to this and one other piece that the same vendor had.  They just kept calling our name.  Finally, after a lot of debate we brought them back.

I think the thing about this beauty that called to me was what we saw when we opened it.  The interior is beautiful.  It glows.  It evokes an earlier time and era.

So, now we have to decide if we're going to relist it as is, for those shabby chic fans, strip the paint and bring out the glow that we see inside, or even repaint it with chalk paint.

What do you think?  More photos below.

  1. What about sanding down the paint some where the detail is on the doors?

  2. I would refinish it with a chalk/milk paint then use a dark wax to highlight the details. Not sure it is worth the $$ to strip her. Is it solid or veneer? Looks like veneer.
