It takes a village to capture a scared, lost dog

They say it takes a village to raise a child.  In our case, it took a village to capture a very scared puppy.
The Rusty Glider Molly adoption

On Saturday, January 30th, we adopted Molly (formerly known as Bonnie).  She was very scared at the adoption event, but after watching her for quite a while I could see there was a very sweet dog waiting for a new home.  We purchased a harness for her at the store, and asked the adoption group to put it on her while I went to pay.  When we were ready to leave I asked if the harness fit and if it was tight enough.  Yes, it's perfect I was told, so out we went.

Tyler rode in the backseat with Molly and she kept her head tucked into him the whole ride.  When we got home, Tyler went in the house to let Nash into the backyard and I got in the car to get Molly out and take her to meet Nash.  She jumped out of the car, gave a little shake and looked at me and quick as a flash she was gone.  I was left standing there holding a leash with an empty harness on the end.  Oh my gosh!

For 4 days we had a running, very scared pup. I immediately posted her on various Facebook groups for lost dogs, and contacted the adoption group we got her from.  She was lost, confused and very fast.  We put up signs, we roamed the streets for hours on end. We met all our neighbors (we had just moved in August).  We set up a live trap with a bait bowl which I got up every hour on the hour to check. Neighbors and strangers called with sightings.  We saw her running like a crazy dog.  She had come in from Puerto Rico, so she didn't know the area, smells, snow, cold or anything.  She was totally unfamiliar with everything.  She was so scared.

Molly is captured - The Rusty GliderMel from The Devoted Barn  came by to give us advice.  The Devoted Barn is a rescue/rehabilitation facility devoted to feral dogs and other animals.  I still cannot believe they took time out of their Sunday to come give us help.  People from all across Facebook came out to
look for our pup.  Total strangers were emailing, messaging and texting words of encouragement.  Others came to help search; people we don't know, but who are devoted to helping find lost animals.

Finally, thanks to the Oakland County Animal Control, Deb from Lost Dog Search Team out of Holly, and my friend Sherry from Sisters on the Fly, we captured a very scared, tired and hungry pup in one of the neighbor's yard.

We didn't know how she would be after her very confusing time on the loose.  We were worried that she would need more care than we could give her.  We are blessed to have an amazingly sweet pup who has fit right into our home. While I NEVER want to go through something like this again, I am once again reminded about the kindness of total strangers.  We are blessed to live in such a great community.
