TCT Rally at Port Crescent State Park, Michigan
We have just returned from a lovely long weekend visit to Port Crescent State Park in Michigan. This park is located at the tip of the thumb and is right on the water. The sites are mostly sandy, with lots of trees and they're spaced wide apart so you're not stacked up like sardines. Sunsets at the beach were spectacular and the Camp Hosts and DNR employees were beyond friendly and helpful. This campground is great!
We were there to attend a Tin Can Tourists rally, organized by member John Truitt. We arrived before the rally started, on Wednesday and left on Sunday. We were so grateful that we came in when we did, as the thunderstorms hit Wednesday night and it rained off and on all day Thursday. It was so relaxing and peaceful to sit in our lovely 1965 Avion and listen to the rain. Our world has been very hectic lately, so this down time was very needed.
Friday night's meal was a communal stir fry dinner. The meat was provided from the rally fees and then everyone brought stuff down to add to the mix. The guys then cooked the meat over one pit and the veggies over the other. The food was fantastic and it was great entertainment watching the prep.
There were over 80 rigs registered for the event. There was everything from our Avion to Shastas, from Frolics to Helites. There were trailers that were restored to original condition and there were trailers that were modified and tricked out. All are welcome, and appreciated. We proudly wore our Avion Travelcade shirts that our friends gifted us with in the spring. They purchased them off CafePress, so if you're a Travelcader, check the site out. I'll be ordering some things too. There are some nifty items.
This event is held each year, the last weekend in July. We highly recommended it and hope to see you there next year.
