Each December for the last 3 years Mark and I have had the honor of being judges at the Michigan Lego League Championship. We get to see elementary and middle school kids who have won prior competitions come compete for the opportunity to go to the international Lego League Championships.
This isn't just playing with Legos. This intense competition requires students to build Lego robots to complete tasks on a playing field. They also have to do research in the focus area (different every year) and come up with an invention, or solution to a problem posed in that area. They do skits, community service and all sorts of other things.
The FIRST® LEGO® League Global Innovation Award is designed to encourage and assist FLL teams to further develop their innovative solutions to real-world problems. This year, the FLL Food Factor® season challenged kids around the world to solve a food safety problem. Any registered FLL team may enter their food safety invention to win the opportunity to take their idea to the next level.
Team "Full of Bologna" from Oxbow Community School (Huron Valley School District elementary school) consists of 5th graders. Their product "Chilly Willy" is designed to keep sandwiches at a temperature where bacteria will not grow while it is in the student's lunchbox. They are in competition to have their product patented, marketed and produced.
The link at the top of the page will take you to the voting page. You can vote once a day until March 1st. Please take a moment and vote for these amazing students.
